Travel inspiration is everywhere now — a reel you saved at midnight, a folder of screenshots, a group chat that has been planning the same trip for three years. There is no shortage of ideas. What’s missing is the part where an idea becomes a date, a booking, and a trip you actually take.
That’s the part I do.
My husband and I have three kids, and the trips we’ve taken together are the stories this family tells over and over — Hawaii, Mexico, Turks & Caicos, Cayman, the Virgin Islands, Ireland. Ask any of us about a year and we’ll answer with where we went. The two of us have traveled much further on our own, to places both romantic and genuinely rustic, which is how I know that the right trip depends entirely on who’s going.
One thing I’m unreasonable about: I don’t believe a hotel is just where you sleep. That mindset costs people a third of their trip. I want somewhere worth coming back to in the middle of the afternoon — and I want the rest of that day spent in the actual place, eating where people who live there eat, not in the version of a destination that’s been smoothed out for visitors. A great trip has both. They’re not in conflict.
So tell me about the someday trip. Let’s give it a date.
Multigenerational and milestone travel, groups and celebrations, cruises, honeymoons and anniversaries, and warm-water destinations I know firsthand — the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii in particular.
